UMEUS in Copenhagen

Early in 2019, Byldis was commissioned to work on building the UMEUS project in Copenhagen.

UMEUS in Copenhagen

Byldis is currently working on two projects in Scandinavia. As well as ESS Lund in Sweden we are also building the UMEUS project in Copenhagen.

UMEUS in Copenhagen is a student residence that offers modern student accommodation at affordable prices. The building consists of no less than 337 dormitories with communal facilities, immediately next to the IT university in Copenhagen. As well as the dormitories, there will also be a café on the ground floor, a launderette and a reading room with a communal living room.

Byldis total concept

The contractor, Rasmus Friis, made the choice for our total concept with integrated frames and glazing. This is because out total concept results in a substantial reduction in construction time, which delivers huge benefits to the customer. There is an enormous shortage of student accommodation in Copenhagen, so the sooner the housing is finished, the better.

For UMEUS, Byldis will produce and supply sandwich facade elements with brick. These will be half-bricks with a concrete back, which means that the bricks will literally be sawn in half and then covered with concrete.
We will also supply and install the inner walls, floors, precast bathrooms, balconies and waste shoots for this project.
The surface area of the residential building is approx. 10,000 square meters, consisting of a basement, ground floor and seven storeys. The building has more than 180 unique concrete elements.

Engineering in a new region

Just as with ESS Lund, the engineering at UMEUS is also a challenge because it has to be carried out for a new and unknown region. For this project we therefore chose a Danish partner (CN3) to work out the engineering of the building together with Byldis.

In all probability, Byldis will complete the UMEUS in August of this year. The building will open in the summer of 2021, from which time the students will be able to move in.

You can find more information about the project on the Rasmus Friis website.

You can also read a nice piece about the UMEUS project on the Krabbenhøft website. Krabbenhøft carries out the static calculations on the concrete elements for UMEUS.
