The Student Hotel in Delft

The collaboration that Byldis has built up with BAM Bouw en Techniek has led to Byldis being commissioned to develop and build a new design for the facades for the project: The Student Hotel in Delft.

The Student Hotel will offer student accommodation and hotel rooms to various target groups (short and long stay). The hotel will also house a gym, bar-restaurant, library, gaming rooms, lounges and co-working spaces. It will be a meeting place for tourists, business travellers, students and young professionals.

The Student Hotel & Byldis

BAM is responsible for the integral realisation of the design of The Student Hotel Delft, made by KCAP Architecten. We are also involved in developing a solution for the facade of the building.

Byldis will produce and supply the sandwich facade elements, ceiling plates and precast pennants for The Student Hotel Delft. This will be for five storeys, topped with two towers of which the highest will be around 35-metres.

Challenges & solutions

Byldis faced several challenges during the the development and production process.
The greatest challenge was the facade, which would normally have been traditionally designed. The standard traditional design had to be converted to a precast design. This meant that a completely new facade had to be devised in terms of technique and appearance. Both the architect and the Engineering department at Byldis worked enormously hard to achieve this, and it ultimately resulted in a good design. As Byldis collaborated with another party on the frames for this project, the coordination for installing them also required a lot of attention. The supplier eventually built the plastic fronts in the elements on the Byldis factory site in Tilburg so that this did not have to take place on the (tight) construction site.

Byldis expects to complete its contribution to The Student Hotel in Delft in April. The Student Hotel in Delft will open its doors in September of this year.
