Overhoeks building "De Jakoba"
Byldis starts Overhoeks building "De Jakoba" at the end of this year!
At the end of this year we will begin production of a new build project, the Overhoeks building "De Jakoba" in Amsterdam on the former Shell terrain.
Overhoeks is a new neighbourhood with a total of 600 social rental housing units. Building "De Jakoba" will be seven storeys high and contain 135 rental properties and 100 m2 of commercial spaces. The striking building forms one of the two social housing complexes in this rectilinear campus-like setting at the IJ harbour, opposite the Central Station. It was designed by Studioninedots.
What will we be doing?
We will be producing green exposed concrete (polished and blasted) for the project. An exceptional shape has therefore been chosen for the facade elements. This demands a specific approach, which required developing in precast concrete right from the start.
Challenges
The challenge for Byldis in this project is the platform (600 mm deep) that is poured onto the outer sheet of the element. Also, most of the facades are not directly on top of one another, but rather staggered inwards per storey, which makes a difficult connection. The shape of the element is also a challenge in terms of finishing it. The elements, with significant depths, must be worked on a polishing machine and then also transported. Incorporating all this into the design phase means that we have made it technically possible.
