Rotterdam is developing into a city with multiple city hearts. The Alexanderknoop, the area around public transport hub Alexander, is one of these city hearts. With good accessibility and all amenities nearby, the Alexanderknoop is an ideal location to live. Right next to the Alexandrium shopping centre, on Grote Beer road, Dura Vermeer Bouw Zuid West has drawn up a plan for a new residential building.
The plan carries 193 rental homes, mostly in the middle segment. With a shortage of this type of housing supply, Dura Vermeer thus offers a real estate solution for starters and single-parent families, among others, who would like to stay in the city.
The Grote Beer (The Big Bear) is a tough, Rotterdam-style building. The tower consists of four blocks stacked on top of each other with collective roof gardens on each of these blocks. The base has a striking volume, which fits in well with the urban context thanks to its extra-high ground floor.
Prefab all the way
A special feature of this project is that Dura Vermeer is going 'Prefab all the way'. Consisting of prefab shell, facades, walls floors and prefab bathrooms and toilets. With good preparation in the development phase, the construction time is significantly reduced and there is as little inconvenience to the surrounding area as possible.
2. Byldis contribution to this project
Byldis took on the complete production of the facade for this project. This means that both the concrete sandwich façade elements with stone strips and the integrated aluminium façades are produced in Byldis' factories and then assembled on site by our client. Besides the fully wind and watertight façade elements, we also produced and/or assembled a number of separate components for the building, such as balcony elements, aluminium curtain walls, etcetera.
3. Why was Byldis chosen?
Thanks to a number of very pleasant collaborations between Byldis and Dura Vermeer on other projects, we also looked together on this project to see how the façade could be realised at the highest possible quality level to match the set budget.
