1. The project: Student accommodation TU (Technical University) Eindhoven
The plan (designed by VenhoevenCS) consists of two residential towers and a student village. The tower on the west side will have 278 student houses, while the eastern tower consists of 371 student houses. Both towers are about 50 metres high (16 floors). Between the two towers will be the 'student village' with 86 dwellings spread over five 2-storey streets, mainly for group living. The ground floor of the towers, the heads of the student village, a waterfront boulevard (blue runner) and recreational greenery will soon form the social heart of the community. This will include a 'Makerspace', meeting spaces, facilities and other spaces/locations that we will fill in together with the students. There will also be meeting spaces on the floors where students can meet each other. The plan thus consists of a mix of different functions that invite people to be together. This makes an important contribution to the well-being of the future residents.
2. Byldis contribution to this project
We took care of the realisation and assembly of the entire precast support structure as well as the precast facade elements including the facades and curtain walls of the two residential towers.
3. Why was Byldis chosen?
To bring integral knowledge of precast and aluminium façades and cladding into the design at an early stage, designing intensively with project partners in order to achieve the intended quality level.
4. Challenges & solutions
The biggest challenge on this project was realising the jointly designed prefabricated building within the schedule with the quality requirements set. After a separate start, the assembly of both towers takes place simultaneously, creating a peak in the amount of engineering, production and logistical operations required to assemble the two towers.
