Technovium ROC Nijmegen is the partnership between technical (vocational) education and the technical business world. As well as the technical sector of the ROC Nijmegen, it is also home to various company training courses. The users aim is to get young people interested in technology and enthusiastic about choosing a technical education. The Technovium ROC Nijmegen building is located alongside the NS station Heyendaal in Nijmegen. The architecture of the building showcases the beauty of technology and thereby generates interest in technical studies.
2. Byldis contribution to this project
Byldis contribution: production, supply and assembly of all aluminium facades for the building.
The applied aluminium system is Alcoa, both curtain walls and window and door frames. The building consists of:
Substructure of curtain walls, windows and doors (1164 m²)
Middle section of curtain walls (518 m²)
Superstructure based on the Alcoa curtain wall system with special project profiles (1450 m²)
Light cover (564 m²)
Elliptical aluminium extruded fins (600 m¹)
3. Why was Byldis chosen?
Byldis Facades was chosen for the Technovium ROC Nijmegen project because the challenges it posed meant it was not suitable for just any facade builder. The protruding facade in particular demanded the necessary knowhow, both in terms of engineering and production and assembly. The scope of the project required a specific level of knowledge from the facade builder. Byldis Facades has the expertise to fulfil this project.

4. Challenges & solutions
Specially designed fin The challenge for Byldis Facades was primarily the protruding curtain wall and the aluminium, horizontally mounted fin. This aluminium fin was designed especially for us for this project. This ‘custom made’ elliptical fin is around 500 mm deep and composed of three specially pressed profiles. The forward-sloping facade meant that extra provisions had to be taken into account to ensure sufficient attachment of the fall-resistant glazing and anchoring to the structural rear construction.
